The Mayor
Councillor Bob Edger OBE, ward councillor for College Town, Sandhurst, became the Mayor of the Borough of Bracknell Forest at a Mayor making ceremony at the Annual Meeting of the Council on Wednesday 21st May 2008.
He has now taken over as first citizen of Bracknell Forest and his wife, Sigrid, will be his Mayoress for his year in office.
Following a successful military career spanning 34 years, in which he reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; Councillor Edger became a senior Civil Servant working for the Ministry of Defence where he was responsible for the welfare of servicemen and their families. He and Sigrid have three sons, two of whom are married, and two grandsons.
He held a number of Council posts before being appointed Deputy Mayor in May 2007 and was a Primary School Governor for almost eighteen years. He is still a Governor at one of our Secondary Schools.
During his civic career so far he has been a SSAFA case worker, Chairman of the Bracknell and District Citizens Advice Bureau, a founder member and Chairman of Bracknell Shop Mobility and is presently a Board member of Bracknell Forest Homes, a newly formed Housing Association arising from the transfer of the Council housing stock to the private sector.
Councillor Edger is an experienced administrator who enjoys meeting members of the public and contributes in any way he can in ensuring that the residents of Bracknell Forest enjoy the very best quality of life that the Council services can provide within the resources available to it.
His chosen charity for his year in office is ‘ChildLine’ a charity that provides a 24 hour helpline for children and young people in distress or danger.
