Potholes
A pothole is where the surface of the road has been eroded and a hollow has formed. The Council is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the Highway.
The severity of the pothole and, therefore, the criteria for attention is determined by the risk it poses to road users.
Determining whether any individual defect should be treated as a category 1 will be a matter of on site judgement but will also have regard for legal proceedings. In this context, for example, a pothole depth of 100mm in carriageways or 20mm in footways and cycleways is presently considered to require particularly careful consideration.
Potholes can also appear on pavements/footways.
Report damage to the highway online using the form on the right.
The form takes about 5 minutes to complete online and you can monitor your progress using the progress bar at the bottom of the screen.
