Pub & Drug Watch

The pub and drug watch scheme has been running in the Borough for some years and has been very successful.
The scheme runs in order to protect customers and staff from nuisance and violence and highlight problems that may be occurring such as drug dealing. When a problem occurs, the police and other pubs in the zone to which they belong can be warned by using a pre-planned ring round list.
The Town centre scheme voted to join the much larger Bracknell scheme as they expressed that being part of a larger scheme would benefit them more so. In addition to the Bracknell scheme Crowthorne and Sandhurst have their own scheme due to their geographical separation from the North of the Borough
Meetings take place every eight weeks in both schemes and are headed up by volunteers who head both the committees.
Posters, leaflets and beer mats all promote the scheme. In addition there is a confidential freephone line so that customers can warn of problems with drugs and drug dealing.

With the assistance of the Bracknell Forest Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) and Drug and Alcohol Action Team; the police randomly deploy sniffer dogs and drug testing equipment to licensed premises throughout the Borough.
The dogs are placed at the door to licensed premises and customers entering or leaving are asked to walk slowly past the dog. The dog will indicate to police officers where anyone is in possession of drugs or has recently handled drugs. In addition sniffer dogs check empty licensed premises and identify areas where drugs have been used.
Also, the drug detection equipment is available to all licensees in order that they may have a survey completed in their premises to identify what substances are in evidence and alerts the licensee as to the areas of the premises that require attention.
All licensees that have joined the scheme have signed up to this.
The Drug and Alcohol Action Team and the Police are constantly looking at ways of getting their message across. A campaign was carried out on the run up to Christmas where every public house in the Borough was visited by uniformed Police officers advising patrons of the dangers of spiked drinks amongst other things.
The licensees were at the same time reminded of their own responsibilities relating to the relevant offences under the Licensing Act in terms of alcohol sales.
If you would like any more information regarding the scheme or you are a licensee in the Borough and would like to join please contact us using the details on the right.
