History

A small ancient woodland copse used to be set in an open rural farmland landscape. 'Tinker' refers to a Scottish vagrant who frequented them in the early 1800s (per R. Mosses). House building in the 1990s enclosed the copses, which had been derelict and unmanaged for quite some time prior to this. It now provides a valuable wildlife oasis within the urban area.

Tinkers Copse is one of the sites that took part in the Woodland Project (2001-2004).

Wildlife

  • Yellow primroses are a cheerful sight in spring along with carpets of bluebells.
