Heritage Projects
Heritage Open Days 2008.
This year Heritage Open Days took place from September 11-14. We had a fantastic few days and the weather was beautiful. We were lucky to host some new events this year. There was the opportunity to take a guided tour around the beautiful buildings at Wellington College, 55 walkers joined a historic ramble around Caesar’s Camp and the Redoubts. The Forest Stitchers held a wonderful exhibition at Bracknell Library and one of our local historians talked on the history of the Benedictines and their impact on the local area. Visitors to the Rural Craft and Folk Day at Lily Hill Park were treated to displays by a blacksmith, circus entertainers, morris dancers, a wood turner and hedge laying.
People were also able to visit venues that have opened in previous years. Warfield Church hosted an exhibition, ghost stories were told at South Hill Park, a treasure hunt took place in the grounds of Pope’s Manor and Easthampstead Church hosted the finale to Heritage Open Days with an Evensong on Sunday evening.
Visitor numbers were up on last year with a total of over 1000 visitors. We hope to build on this success next year. If you have any ideas for next year’s programme you can email at heritage@bracknell-forest.gov.uk .

Reminiscence Groups
Many inhabitants of Bracknell and the surrounding area have interesting memories of their lives here, and reminiscence groups are an ideal way to recall and share these memories. Working with the Community Development Officer, the Heritage Officer has helped to establish a reminiscence group in Priestwood. The group meets every other Tuesday at the Priestwood Community Centre and not only offers a chance to stroll down memory lane but is also a chance to socialise over a cup of tea.
