Newly Qualified Teachers

Starting a new job is always challenging, whatever the profession. As a qualified teacher, you are now faced with a new environment, new colleagues, your own classroom, class responsibility, plus possibly a move to a new area or home.
By starting your teaching career in Bracknell Forest you are joining a local Authority committed to help you continue your professional development and settle quickly into your new job.
By combining excellent training in a supportive LA with financial incentives, housing initiatives and flexible benefits, we are sure you will find Bracknell Forest the right choice for you!
Training
You will be invited to join the Bracknell Forest NQT Training Programme. Designed to support you in your new role, this training will lead you through your induction period and continue into your second and third years of teaching and beyond!
Your continuing professional development will have a number of elements including training sessions and group meetings, it will also provide you the opportunity to meet with NQTs from other local schools, to share experiences and learn from one another.
The comprehensive course content has evolved with experience from previous years and is constantly updated with new issues and methods included. Training for secondary teachers is rotated around our six secondary schools.
Bracknell Forest also offers a “drop-in surgery” giving you the opportunity to discuss any professional development issues with your advisor. There are also regular NQT Forums where NQTs can meet together informally, discuss issues of the moment and look around the host school.
Early Start of Salary
If you are able to work for a short period before the end of the Summer Term, your school has the facility to pay you from 1st July. Apart from enabling you to receive your salary throughout the summer, you can get to know the school and other staff, meet the pupils, prepare work and find accommodation in the local area ready for September.
Financial Benefits
There are a number of schemes running nationally which offer incentives to NQTs in shortage subjects. Some positions will attract Recruitment Allowances and there are also Golden Hello payments.
Salaries and allowances
As a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT), you are bound by national conditions of service but Bracknell Forest pay for teachers includes the Outer London Fringe Allowance. We are the most westerly LA to be able to pay this.
If you are a career changer or mature entrant and have a significant amount of relevant experience this will be taken into account when setting your starting salary. We also have opportunities for FastTrack teachers and Advanced Skills Teachers.
Currently the pay levels are reviewed each September. In addition salaries for teachers on the main pay scale rise to the next point on the salary scale (if they have performed satisfactorily). As you take on additional responsibility within school, you may be eligible for Teaching and Learning Responsibility Allowances. After successful assessment and when you reach the top of the main pay scale, you can apply to move onto the upper pay scale. This upper pay scale has five points and progression is based entirely on your performance.
