Adult and Family Learning Summer 2008
Our aim is to promote the benefits of lifelong learning and create a thriving local learning community.

The Learning Bus
Programmes on the Learning Bus are designed to help adults without GCSEs in English or Maths to improve their skills in these subjects.

First Steps into Learning
If you are new to learning or you need more self confidence, why not enrol on one of our free First Steps courses. This term we are running Life Coaching, Healthy Living, Singing for Fun, Confidence through Drawing and Well-being through Colour Painting. These courses run for 4 or 5 sessions.
Taster Sessions
This is a programme of single, low cost sessions on a variety of topics including crafts, health, well-being and personal development, gardening, languages, music and job skills. Come along and try something new.
Please note that the small fee charged for some Taster sessions is payable at the start of the session.
Computer Courses
Are you new to computing? ‘First Time on a Computer’ is designed to help absolute beginners to become familiar with computer jargon, using a mouse and keyboard, the internet and email. It is free and lasts for 10 hours over two or more sessions.
We also run free introductory taster sessions on a wide range of topics including Microsoft Word and Excel, file management and computer safety, email, digital photography and much more.

Please note that if you need glasses for reading, you will probably need them when using a computer and it is often easier to see the computer screen wearing glasses with plain lenses rather than bifocals or varifocals.
Next Steps in Learning
These short courses enable you to learn a little bit more about popular subjects. This term our Next Steps course programme includes calligraphy, facials and skin care, wine tasting and flower arranging.
The fee for these courses is payable at the time of booking, but we offer a fee reduction for anyone on means-tested benefits – please ask when you book. Please note that fees are not refundable unless we cancel the course. You can download a payment form for Next Step courses from the panel on the right.
Next Step Computer Learning
This programme includes 2 short courses on Dreamweaver and Photoshop Elements.

Family Learning Programme
Our family learning programme includes French, Spanish and Latin, parenting skills, paediatric first aid and a course to help parents support children in their early primary school years.
- Half Term Fun is on Wednesday 28th May from 10.00 a.m. until 3.00 p.m.
- Saturday Fun is on 17th May and 24th May from 2.00 p.m. until 4.00 p.m.
- Family Learning Day is on Saturday 21st June from 10.00 a.m. until 3.00 p.m. at Holly Spring Infant and Junior Schools

When you enrol on any session, please let us know if you have any special needs or require additional support to enable you to participate in the course. If we know your requirements in advance, we will do our best to provide appropriate assistance for you.
Courses take place at:
Brakenhale Open Learning Centre – Rectory Lane, Easthampstead, Bracknell RG12 7GR (next to Brakenhale Secondary School)
Sandhurst Open Learning Centre – Owlsmoor Road, Owlsmoor, Sandhurst GU47 0SD (next to Sandhurst Secondary School)
Please note that you will require small change to purchase refreshments at Sandhurst Open Learning Centre, but tea and coffee are free of charge at Brakenhale Open Learning Centre.
Please bring a packed lunch if you attend a day-long course.

Bracknell & Wokingham College is the main further education provider in the Borough and one of the largest and most successful in the area. The College offers an extensive part-time programme of courses in various locations and at different times of the day. They also offer full-time courses.
