Your Refuse and Recycling Alternate Bin Collections (ABC)

Bracknell Forest Borough Council operates an Alternate Bin Collection (ABC) scheme to help residents increase the amount they recycle and compost. Residents have their recycling and garden waste collected one week and their landfill rubbish the following week. The rate of recycling has increased over the first year of ABC to 41 per cent due to participation by residents in the scheme.
Collection Day
To find out what day the refuse and recycling collection is for your area, view the collection calendars in the download section on the right. If you are unsure of what zone you live in, use our online tool localview to find out. Please ensure the correct container is out at the kerbside for collection by 6.30am. This can be done the night before however, once emptied, it must be returned to your property. Please note that leaving excess rubbish in the street is an offence that could lead to prosecution. The bin should be presented with the lid closed and excess rubbish left by the bin will not be taken. Residents are responsible for keeping their bins clean.
One bin per household policy
Only one refuse bin is allocated per household and collected from the kerbside or a dedicated collection point in alternate weeks to your recycling collection. Those with larger families please contact the Waste and Recycling Team via Customer Services for further help and advice.
Assisted Collection
Assisted doorstep collections are available for elderly and less able residents. To apply for an assisted collection, either download an application form or contact Customer Services on 01344 352000.
Sack Collections
A small number of residents use plastic sacks instead of wheelie bins; their refuse will be collected from immediately outside their property or from their bin cupboard. Sacks must not be presented at the kerbside with wheeled bins as they will be regarded as excess rubbish and will not be collected.
Bank Holidays
After all Bank Holiday Mondays all collections will be one day late (Tuesday to Saturday). Good Friday collections will be undertaken on Good Friday. Christmas and New Year arrangements will be published separately on the website and in the newspaper.
Calendars
Refuse and recycling calendars are delivered to residents twice a year in March and September.
Residents are entitled to a free blue wheelie bin to give you more recycling capacity. Additional recycling boxes can also be provided.
By early 2009 residents will be able to place all recylables, currently collected, in one container when the new recycling sorting plant is opened in Reading.

Garden waste can be left for collection on recycling weeks in brown wheelie bins or biodegradable brown sacks, or taken to the Civic Amenity site in Longshot Lane.
Composting waste for subsequent use in the garden is also encouraged and composters will remain available for purchase at a heavily subsidised cost. Further information is available on composting garden waste and purchasing a composter.
