Gambling Act 2005

Following on from the implementation of the Licensing Act 2003, the Gambling Act 2005 continues with the Government's plan for a more efficient and integrated licensing system. The Council is responsible for issuing premises licences for activities such as bingo, betting and provision of gaming machines.

Our Statement of Gambling Principles was published in January 2007 and must be reviewed every three years. This Statement of Principles sets out the policy that the Council will generally apply when considering applications. Applicants are required to demonstrate how they will promote the three Licensing Objectives:

  1. Preventing gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime;
  2. Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way; and
  3. Protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
