Further Information on Health & Safety

Information is available on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website, which will assist you in looking after your business by showing you how to take some simple steps to get your health and safety organised. There is help for new businesses and for those already in business.

Health and safety doesn’t have to be expensive, time consuming or complicated. To find a free basic guide for small businesses, including two ready-made self-assessment forms for a risk assessment and a health and safety policy, look at 'An introduction to health and safety' (414k pdf download from HSE website).

New businesses can find useful general information in the Getting started on health and safety section or in the What you must do section, which includes help and advice on 10 actions businesses must take to ensure they meet health and safety law.

Further information for businesses, employees and their representatives is contained within the booklet produced by the HSE entitled 'What to expect when a health and safety inspector calls'.

A variety of free information leaflets are produced by the HSE and can be obtained from the HSE website.

We also recommend that you visit the Berkshire Health and Safety Liaison Group website. The BHSLG is a partnership made up of Environmental Health Officers from Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead, West Berkshire and Wokingham Councils. There is also a representative on the group from the Health and Safety Executive.
