Caribbean sounds for the summer at Heathlands

The Mayor of the Borough of Bracknell Forest visited clients from centres for older people at a Caribbean themed party recently.

The party goers enjoyed cool caribbean sounds provided by Birmingham-based trio Steel and Strings. The theme was continued with tasty caribbean treats and staff even wore garlands and grass skirts to help get everyone in the party mood!

The whole event was made possible by staff who had done fund raising activities to pay for the entertainment. The funds raised will also pay for river boat trips down the thames and enable the setting up of a gardening club.

The Mayor of the Borough of Bracknell Forest, Cllr Bob Edger said: "It looked like a fantastic time was had by all and I certainly enjoyed meeting staff, visitors and residents who came to the party."

It is the fourth time Heathlands has hosted the band - who mainly work on cruise ships. Steel and Strings were discovered by Heathlands centre manager Linda Parsons on a cruise four years ago.

She said: The party is really different to the other events we hold throughout the year, and has been so popular that it has become an annual event.”
